The “real” Crete still exists, where agriculture, not tourism remains the way of life and where the cretan sense of spirit and community still prevail. Centered around the old church of “Agios Ioannis o Prodromos” with its 600 handred years old frescos lies the village of Deliana, at the mouth of the dramatic and wild gorge of the same name. At the center of the village is our taverna “The Gorge”. Food grown on our own land is home cooked and served by our family and can be accompinied by village produced wine. This is a rare chance to sample true cretan hospitality, far from the tourist trail. And while you are here, do take a walk in the gorge where the majestic “kanavos” (vulture) will be your guide... Some of the specialities that we serve are: Chicken in red sauce, boureki, fava, kalitsounia, mountain greens, green beans, lamb in the auven, lamb tsigariasto, rabbit stifado, rabbit tsigariasto, pork with sellery, snails in red sauce, fried snails with rosemary, stuffed tomatoes, stuffed wine leaves and flowers, mousaka, staka, seftalia, cretan sausages, apaki.
